Dirt

Dirt bike races at the
Middle Tennessee District Fair, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee

A friend's son is number 38 in the first two shots.
There were a few bikes and ATVs with pink, and one group of  itty-bitty riders.

Isn't the last little guy cute?

A Real Tin Man

Shucks, I guess he is really aluminum.
But, he scored Best of Show for a creative lady in one category at the
Middle Tennessee District Fair, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee

Atypical

Hazy, pastel, dreamy created by backlighting is not typically my style. But, hey, it's a Zinnia.

On the bandwagon

Is that the way the saying goes?

Especially since Fall has always been my favorite season, I can't let the first day of fall go by without posting a leaf.  There are a few colorful leaves on our trees already.  Just a few.

These blue pearls are the remains of my Lantana.  The blooms are pink and yellow all in the same flower.  Go figure that the seed pods turn blue.  It must be the most colorful flower I have had.
(I'm just assuming that those are seed pods, I didn't Google it.)

And my trustworthy Poke Salad which is always ready and willing for a photo to be taken.
I'll say it again because I know it is a stereotype food for southerners . . . No, we don't grow Poke Salad on purpose and we don't eat it.  It grows wild along the garden fence with my Zinnias.  Hubby was going to clean it out, but I asked him to leave it.  Yes, so I could take photos of it again this year.

Happy Fall !!!

Lake Guntersville State Park

The lodge is beautiful and has recently been renovated.

The bottom photo shows the camping facilities which lost many trees in the April 2011 tornadoes that devastated much of Alabama.

Plan a visit to this beautiful lake or one of the other Alabama State Parks.

For the birds

One of several transmission line towers serving as high rises for water foul near Wheeler Dam, Tennessee River, northwest Alabama, The Shoals.

They are at maximum capacity every time I go buy either in a car or boat.

Fluffy and glassy

A recent evening on Wheeler Lake on the Tennessee River in northwest Alabama, The Shoals.
The second shot is on Second Creek that feeds the river.

Flying

I believe this is an American Pelican.
Wilson Lake, Tennessee River, The Shoals, North Alabama

Hey, Brian King.
I'm going to do this as well as you one of these days.

Smile.

September evening

We didn't have a summer garden this year, but Hubby has planted greens.
That is cotton behind him (not ours).  Most of it is shoulder height, but I understand that cotton is way behind this year due to our cooler, wetter summer weather.  Last year at this time, those plants were full of bolls opening with white fluffy cotton.  There are plenty of bolls out there, but very few of them are opening.  Hopefully, there is still time to get a decent crop.

Even the dying Zinnias are pretty.

There is a bumper crop of poke salad along this fence also.
But not as pretty as last year's that you can see here.

Looks out of hand, doesn't it?
That's because it is. :)

And, finally, here is the other side of my friend from the other day.

You're being watched

This was one of the taller Zinnias in the batch.
It reminds me of a city of skyscrapers and he is on the tallest roof watching everything.

Update:  This photo earned a 3rd Place ribbon in the "flower category" at the
2013 Middle Tennessee District Fair, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee

The only scene in town . . .

. . . or rather, the only thing with decent blooms in my yard lately are these from the ornamental grass.  I think this is liriope, but around here it is "monkey grass".

Yep, I've been missing for a few weeks.  No real reason, other than lack of interest and inspiration.
